Conduct of Meeting

The Mission of the Board for Geologists and Geophysicists (Board) is to continuously enhance the quality, significance and availability of geological and geophysical services offered to the people of California. The Board was established in 1969 and is part of the Department of Consumer Affairs. The Board has policy autonomy and sets its own procedures, rules and regulations while the Department of Consumer Affairs provides administrative oversight and support services. The Board carries out its responsibilities through application, examination, licensure and regulation to ensure that only competent geologists and geophysicists are licensed and practice within the standards of the professions.

The purpose of the meeting is for the Board to obtain testimony and information from concerned and affected parties and make decisions after considering the recommendations made by the Executive Officer. The Board will vote only on matters listed on the agenda. The Board may give direction to the Executive Officer on any matter discussed during the meeting.

DO NOT DISCUSS ENFORCEMENT CASES WITH BOARD MEMBERS IN WRITING, ORALLY, ELECTRONICALLY OR BY ANY OTHER MEANS OF COMMUNICATION. THIS INCLUDES CONTACT BEFORE, DURING, OR AFTER A BOARD OR COMMITTEE MEETING.

As a California State Board, the Board is governed by the Bagley-Keene Open Meeting Act that requires the Board to (1) publish an agenda at least ten (10) days in advance of any meeting; (2) describe in the agenda specific items to be transacted or discussed; and (3) refuse to add an item to the agenda without an amended notice published 10 days prior to the meeting. In addition to these general requirements, the Bagley-Keene Act includes other specific provisions about how meetings are to be announced and conducted.

Agenda items are numbered for identification purposes and will not necessarily be considered in the order listed.

Board meetings are open to the public and are held in barrier free facilities in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. For additional information or assistance with any Americans with Disabilities Act request, please contact the Board Office.

If you would like to comment on an item scheduled for a public hearing or speak during the public comment period, please fill out a "Request to Speak" form and give it to a staff member. Each speaker is limited to a maximum of three minutes during the public comment period, and the Chairperson may set time limits for each speaker at the beginning of a public hearing. You are encouraged to submit written comments of any length and detailed information to the staff. The material will be distributed to the Board members. Material presented to the Board, as part of testimony (e.g., photographs, slides, charts, maps, diagrams, etc.) that is to be made part of the record must be left with the Executive Officer. Photographs or slides of large exhibits are acceptable. All Board files, exhibits, and agenda material pertaining to items on this agenda are hereby part of the record.

The Board is responsible for enforcing the provisions of the Geologist and Geophysicist Act and its regulations. (Bus. & Prof. Code Sec. 7800 et seq.; Title 16 Calif. Code of Regs. Sec. 3000 et seq.)
